Robert Anthony Rodriguez (/rɒˈdriːɡɛz/; born June 20, 1968) is a remarkable American filmmaker, composer, and visual effects supervisor. He is renowned for shooting, editing, producing, and scoring in many of his films, predominantly in Mexico and his home state of Texas. Rodriguez gained mainstream success with his 1992 action film El Mariachi, which grossed significantly against a meager budget, leading to two sequels known as the Mexico Trilogy: Desperado (1995), and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003). He further directed the cult classic From Dusk till Dawn in 1996 and developed its television series adaptation (2014–2016). A notable part of Rodriguez's work is the 2005 neo-noir crime thriller Sin City and its 2014 sequel, both of which were adapted from the graphic novel of the same name. His diverse portfolio includes kids' franchises such as Spy Kids and esteemed films such as Planet Terror (2007), Machete (2010), and Alita: Battle Angel (2019). He is a close collaborator of filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, with whom he co-founded the A Band Apart production company.
