Richard Beymer is an American actor, filmmaker, and visual artist whose career spans more than seven decades, beginning as a child performer on the Los Angeles television program Sandy Dreams and evolving into a versatile character actor known for his roles in classic cinema and cult television. He made his feature‑film debut in Vittorio De Sica’s Stazione Termini (1953) and later gained critical attention as Peter Van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959), a performance that showcased his dramatic depth and earned him a contract with 20th Century Fox. In 1961 he was cast as Tony in the iconic musical West Side Story; although his singing was dubbed, the role earned him a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year – Actor and cemented his place in Hollywood history.
