Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Copeland Bloom (born 13 January 1977) is an English actor who gained prominence with his breakthrough role as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings film series (2001–03) and the Hobbit series (2013-14). Due to his notable appearances in epic fantasy, historical, and adventure films, he is admired by some as the Errol Flynn of his generation. His extensive film resume includes roles as Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2003–07, 2017), Paris in Troy (2004), Balian de Ibelin in Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and the Duke of Buckingham in The Three Musketeers (2011). In addition to his film career, he made his professional stage debut in In Celebration at the Duke of York's Theatre in West End in 2007 and earned acclaim for his role in the Broadway adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in 2013. He also gained recognition for his part in the Amazon Prime Video series Carnival Row (2019–2023).

Bloom was born in Canterbury, Kent, and named after the 16th-century English composer Orlando Gibbons. His acting journey began with television roles in episodes of Casualty and Midsomer Murders, shortly followed by his film debut in Wilde (1997), opposite Stephen Fry. After studying acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he landed one of his most known roles as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings. He has also starred in other Hollywood films such as Black Hawk Down (2001), Ned Kelly (2003), Elizabethtown (2005), and New York, I Love You (2007). His role in the war drama film The Outpost (2020) was particularly applauded. In his personal life, Bloom is not only an internationally recognized actor but also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and he has contributed significantly to various humanitarian causes.
