Mildred Dunnock: Movies, Awards & Box Office

Mildred Dorothy Dunnock was an outstanding American stage and screen actress, best known for her roles in Death of a Salesman and Baby Doll. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1901, she discovered a passion for theatre during her studies at Goucher College. After graduating, she took on the role of an English teacher at Friends School in Baltimore while also participating in school productions. She furthered her education at Columbia University, obtaining a Master of Arts degree whilst partaking in a play. Her acting prowess was honed under the tutelage of notable figures at the Actors Studio, such as Lee Strasberg, Robert Lewis, and Elia Kazan.

Dunnock's career kicked off with roles in Broadway productions and she gained acclaim for her performance in The Corn is Green. She was notably a founding member of the Actors Studio in 1947. In 1951, she reprised her role as Linda Loman in the film version of Death of Salesman. Her other remarkable performances include roles in The Trouble with Harry, Love Me Tender, and Baby Doll. She was nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Baby Doll. Besides her notable contributions to motion pictures, she dedicated a great deal of her times to theatrical productions and teaching. Dunnock's final film was The Pick-up Artist in 1987. She passed away in 1991 in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts.
