Method Man, born Clifford Smith Jr. on March 2, 1971, is a multifaceted artist, renowned as an American rapper, record producer, and actor. His fame is attributed to his membership in the East Coast hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, and as one half of the hip hop duo Method Man & Redman. Method Man took his stage name after the 1979 film of the same title. A noteworthy accomplishment in his music career includes winning a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1996, for the song 'I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By', featuring R&B singer Mary J. Blige, with whom he later starred in Power Book II: Ghost. Apart from music, Method Man also has a successful acting career, featuring in prominent films such as 187 (1997), Belly (1998), How High (2001), and The Cobbler (2014) among others. He has been recurrently seen in the HBO series Oz, The Wire, and The Deuce.

Born in Hempstead, Long Island, Method Man spent his childhood dividing his time between his father's residence in Long Island and his mother's home in the Park Hill section of Staten Island. Method Man is well known for his comic book collection, which includes around 30,000 comics. He has faced several legal issues due to marijuana possession and income tax violations, leading to arrests and fines.
