Marco Messeri is an Italian actor, comedian, stage director, singer‑songwriter and voice actor whose career spans more than five decades, beginning with his stage debut in 1969 in Paolo Poli's Il Brasile. Born on 15 December 1948 in the coastal city of Livorno, he first studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze before turning to the dramatic arts at the Piccolo Teatro drama school in Milan, a training that gave him a versatile foundation for both theatrical and cinematic work. After years of supporting parts, Messeri achieved his first major breakthrough in 1987 when he starred in Carlo Mazzacurati's Notte italiana, a performance that earned him the prestigious Globo d'oro for best new actor, and the same year he captured a Ciak d'oro for best supporting actor for his role in Massimo Troisi's Le vie del Signore sono finite.
