Josep Maria Pou (born José María Pou Serra) is a celebrated Spanish actor whose career spans more than five decades. He was born on 19 November 1944 in Mollet del Vallès, Spain, and grew up in the culturally rich region of Catalonia. After completing his primary studies at the Universidad Laboral "Francisco Franco" in Tarragona, Pou pursued formal acting training at the prestigious Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático (RESAD) in Madrid. His professional debut came in 1970 at the historic Teatro María Guerrero, where his powerful stage presence quickly earned him critical acclaim and paved the way for a prolific trajectory in both classical and contemporary productions.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Pou became a mainstay of Spanish theatre, tackling challenging roles in works by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Chekhov, and Brecht, as well as modern playwrights such as Edward Albee and Tony Kushner. His versatility extended to the screen, where he appeared in acclaimed films like Mar adentro (2003), Blancanieves (2012), and The Realm (2018), and starred in popular television series such as La Catedral del Mar (2018). Pou’s contributions have been repeatedly recognized with prestigious awards, including multiple Premios Max for best director of a stage production, best spectacle, and best adaptation, as well as the 2007 Premio Terenci Moix.
