Fernando Becerril: Movies & Box Office

Fernando Becerril (1944/1945 – 7 February 2023) was a talented Mexican actor who had been part of numerous Spanish-language films since 1998, prominently known for his roles in 'El crimen del padre Amaro' (2002), 'Tlatelolco, verano del 68' and 'The Legend of Zorro' (2005). Born in San Luis Potosí and raised in Cuernavaca, Morelos, he discovered his passion for performing as a choir member and later started acting in Mexico City when he was 15. He embarked on formal studies at the School of Fine Arts Theatre and successfully secured a French government scholarship for further study at 25. Living in Paris for two decades, he got hired as a French actor in 1995 and subsequently decided to return to Mexico, due to his longing for his homeland and the acting opportunities. After turning 50, he primarily focused on theater, his first true love, alongside cinema and TV. Becerril believed fervently in the potential of Mexican Cinema on the global stage, although he lamented the lack of 'protection' for the local actors and producers and the bias towards American cinema. His death saddened his peers like Joaquín Cosío, Horacio Villalobos, José María Yazpik, Ignacio Riva Palacio, Darío Ripolll, and Eduardo España. His contribution to theater promotion was significant, collaborating and performing in numerous productions like 'Un plato difícil', 'El mercader de Venecia', 'La comedia de las equivocaciones', 'Sueño de una noche de verano', and others.
