David John Franco, known as Dave Franco, is an American actor and filmmaker with an extensive filmography. Born on June 12, 1985, in Palo Alto, California, he evolved from small roles in films such as Superbad (2007) and Charlie St. Cloud (2010) to starring roles in popular films and TV series. His film breakthrough came by way of a supporting role in the buddy comedy film 21 Jump Street (2012). Franco has also starred in Fright Night (2011), Now You See Me (2013) and its sequel Now You See Me 2 (2016), Neighbors (2014) and its sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), Nerve (2016), The Disaster Artist (2017), and Day Shift (2022). In 2020, he shifted to the director's chair, making his directorial debut on The Rental, starring his wife Alison Brie. Franco originally studied at the University of Southern California with the intention of becoming a creative writing teacher, until he was redirected to acting by his brother James Franco's manager. Franco's first acting experience came about in 2006 when he debuted on The CW drama television series 7th Heaven, later going on to impress in shows such as Do Not Disturb and Young Justice.

Franco made significant strides in television and film throughout his career. He featured in The CW teen drama series Privileged and the ninth and final season of the sitcom Scrubs. The following years saw him star in well-received films, including Fright Night, 21 Jump Street, and Warm Bodies. He co-starred in the crime thriller film Now You See Me in 2013, which demonstrated his card-throwing abilities. Subsequent roles included the comedy Neighbors, 22 Jump Street, and Unfinished Business among others. Franco reprised his roles in the sequels Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and Now You See Me 2 in 2016. The next couple of years saw him appear in acclaimed films such as The Little Hours and The Disaster Artist directed by his brother James. 2018 saw him feature in Netflix's addiction drama 6 Balloons and take a small role in If Beale Street Could Talk. He directed The Rental in 2020 and starred in the Apple TV+ series The Afterparty in 2022.
