Claire Elizabeth Foy (born 16 April 1984) is a renowned British actress known for her exceptional portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix drama series The Crown, which ran from 2016 to 2023. This performance earned her great acclaim, winning her a Golden Globe and two Primetime Emmy Awards. Foy's acting career kick-started with her screen debut in the pilot episode of the supernatural comedy series Being Human in 2008. After her stage debut at the Royal National Theatre, she played leading roles in the title role in the BBC One miniseries, Little Dorrit, and the American historical fantasy drama, Season of the Witch. Her career trajectory took a positive turn after landing leading roles in TV series like The Promise and Crossbones, earning praise for her depiction of the doomed queen Anne Boleyn in the BBC miniseries Wolf Hall. Her extraordinary performance as Janet Shearon, wife of astronaut Neil Armstrong, in Damien Chazelle's biopic 'First Man', fetched her Best Supporting Actress nominations from the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs. In her early life, Claire was the youngest of three children in her family and she grew up in Manchester and Leeds, England. When Foy was eight, her parents divorced, and she spent her formative years going to school in Aylesbury High School, then studying drama at Liverpool John Moores University. After further enhancing her acting skills with a one-year course at the Oxford School of Drama, she moved to the Peckham area of south London. She had a remarkable stage debut in DNA and The Miracle, two plays directed by Paul Miller at the Royal National Theatre in London. Her TV and film career includes roles in horror adventure film Season of the Witch, the BBC revival of Upstairs Downstairs and biographical drama film Breathe. In 2014, Foy married actor Stephen Campbell Moore and they have a daughter.
