Sir Carol Reed (30 December 1906 – 25 April 1976) was an influential English film director and producer, celebrated for productions like Odd Man Out (1947), The Fallen Idol (1948), The Third Man (1949), and Oliver! (1968), which earned him the Academy Award for Best Director. Known for anchoring the British film Industry, Odd Man Out was the recipient of the first BAFTA Award for Best British Film, and The Fallen Idol won the second. The British Film Institute rightfully voted The Third Man as the greatest British film of the 20th century.
