Bobby Farrelly, born Robert Thomas Farrelly on June 17, 1958, is an esteemed American film director, screenwriter and producer, also known as one of the Farrelly brothers. His prominence is strongly associated with the successful box-office comedy films that he and his brother Peter Farrelly, the other half of the Farrelly brothers, have produced and directed, such as Dumb and Dumber (1994), There's Something About Mary (1998), and Me, Myself and Irene (2000). In 2023, Farrelly made his solo directorial debut with the movie Champions. Farrelly's other notable works include Shallow Hal (2001) and The Heartbreak Kid remake (2007).
Farrelly spent his early years in Cumberland, Rhode Island, where he was raised by his parents Mariann, a nurse practitioner, and Dr. Robert Leo Farrelly. His grandparents were immigrants from Ireland and he also has Polish ancestry. His career took off when he and his brother Peter started working on films. Besides directing, Farrelly also co-wrote and co-produced films, a testament to his tutelage at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His illustrious career also extends to television, where he contributed to popular series like Seinfeld and Trailer Park Boys. In 2024, Farrelly is set to direct the forthcoming Christmas comedy Dear Santa, reuniting with Jack Black from Shallow Hal.
