You Are My Only Love (1993): Cast & Plot

In the prologue, a young girl journeys to the United States, harboring an unrequited affection for her older brother’s friend, whom she lovingly calls “Uncle Zhenya.” Twenty years pass, and Yevgeny Timoshin, a former boxer turned modest engineer in Saint Petersburg, navigates a lean, crowded life. He shares a small apartment with his wife, Natasha, a sexologist, and their daughter Olya. He also takes on a night shift as a grocery-store loader to help make ends meet, while his elderly father, a former sailor, begs in the metro with a cheerful resilience that masks hardship. The entire family clings to a future that feels just out of reach, yet still reachable, especially as whispers of a brighter life in the United States drift through their home.
