A wealthy CEO, portrayed by Jesse Plemons, and his wife, played by Lily Collins, arrive at their vacation home only to find themselves in the midst of a burglary. In a desperate attempt to resolve the situation discreetly, the CEO offers the intruder, depicted by Jason Segel, a sum of money in exchange for his silence, promising not to involve the authorities. However, things take a turn for the worse when the robber locks the couple in a sauna.

As the tension escalates, the robber discovers a camera capturing his every move, prompting him to confront the couple again and demand a staggering $500,000 in cash. When the CEO contacts his assistant, he learns that the money will not be available until the next day. Throughout a series of tense conversations, the underlying difficulties in the couple’s relationship surface, revealing that while the CEO wishes to start a family, his wife feels unfulfilled.

That evening, the wife confides in the robber, expressing her unhappiness and challenges him, telling him to stop labeling himself as a victim for marrying someone wealthy. The following day, in a surprising twist, the CEO accuses the robber of being one of the many who lost their jobs due to the very algorithm he created – one that aids companies in downsizing. Amidst this turmoil, a gardener, played by Omar Leyva, arrives to tend to the property. He engages the CEO in conversation about planting an oak tree, which unintentionally adds to the tension when the robber insists the gardener come inside.

As frustrations mount, the CEO insults the robber, claiming that his life is valueless, only for the robber to react violently. A warning shot from the robber leads to chaos as the gardener attempts a desperate escape, resulting in a tragic accident that leaves him dead from a shard of glass. The stolen money is deposited outside the house, and the wife goes to retrieve it, but despite seeing a passing car, she chooses not to signal for help and returns inside.

In a shocking turn of events, the robber ties up the couple in separate rooms and reveals that he once fantasized about living a life of luxury. He further complicates matters by revealing to the CEO that his wife is on birth control. In a moment of fierce determination, she manages to free herself and, in a dramatic confrontation, kills the robber with a small statue before turning the gun on her husband. Ultimately, she orchestrates a scene that implicates the robber before leaving the property, leading to a shocking conclusion that underscores the desperation and complexities of their relationships.
