Warlock III: The End of Innocence 1999

Kris is a young woman who has no memory of her family, and a historian tells her she has inherited a family house, a revelation that pulls her into a web of mystery and danger. Joining Michael — her boyfriend — are their friends Scott, Lisa, and Jerry, along with Kris’s best friend Robin, who is herself a witch. From the moment they arrive, the house feels electric with visions and echoes of a past life, a haunted sense that something old and powerful is waking.

Inside the mansion, Kris begins to glimpse fragments of a former life and a haunted doll that seems to carry memory and menace. A menacing figure named Covington, the Warlock Bruce Payne — a malevolent force with plans that stretch beyond death — has long wanted Kris as a part of a dark ritual. Kris’s mother uses her own magic to trap Covington in the Catacombs of his own home, a desperate defense that buys Kris a fragile window of safety, at least for the night. The house itself mutters with strange, unexplained noises, and Kris’s night is punctuated by a chilling apparition of a young child that lingers at the edge of the walls.

The next day brings a harsher light. Kris goes to meet the historian, only to learn that Covington, posing as an architect, has murderously misled the truth. He kills the historian and destroys letters from Kris’s mother, leaving Kris and her group with nothing but fear and a trace of their own complicity in the danger that now stalks them. Covington toys with Kris and her friends, manipulating Jerry into stealing Robin’s talisman and a lock of her hair, a betrayal that deepens the sense of doom that has settled over the house.

Robin fights back with her own magic, but Covington’s powers are more seasoned and cruel. In a devastating display, he transforms Robin into a glass statue and shatters her, a stark reminder of the mortal stakes at play. With Robin’s fall, Covington tightens his grip on Kris, capturing and torturing Kris’s remaining friends to lure her to him. The tension ratchets as Kris finds herself cornered, the walls closing in as Covington reveals his gruesome plan: he intends to exchange her soul with a consort from hell to birth a new, evil line.

Kris fights to break free, a contest that grows more visceral as Covington’s form twists toward a demonic edge. She seizes a sacrificial blade, drives it at Covington, and discovers that he remains unfazed by the mortal blade. In a pivotal moment, she rips the doll from Covington’s grasp and tears open its cavity to reveal a hidden knife. With a sudden, decisive move, she plunges the knife into Covington’s heart, ending his threat once and for all.

The house seems to exhale after the struggle, and Kris, battered but unbroken, emerges with a new instrument of power: a book of magic. She studies it carefully, and the tarot card of Strength seems to glow with quiet approval as she steps out of the Catacombs and into a future she now claims for herself. The final image lingers on Kris as she walks away, the bond with her friends forever changed, and the house’s shadowy history receding into the night.
