Uuno Turhapuro [Vesa-Matti Loiri] is forced to complete his mandatory military service when it is revealed that he spent only one day in the army years earlier. As is typical of the Turhapuro comedies, his family and friends become deeply entangled in these events, pulling everyone into a whirl of bureaucratic mix-ups and comic misinterpretations. His friend Härski Hartikainen [Spede Pasanen] and Sörsselssön [Simo Salminen] head back to the army for a refresher course, while Uuno’s father-in-law, Councillor Tuura [Marita Nordberg], is unexpectedly elevated to the position of Finnish Defence Minister. The officers overseeing Uuno misread his presence as a covert mission to test the army’s leadership and conduct, and they scheme to keep him quiet by offering promotions. Incredibly, within a single week, Uuno is promoted from private to major, a rise that only fuels the confusion and farce surrounding his role.

Within the chaos, the story threads through family loyalties, political farce, and military melodrama, all while Uuno tries to navigate a world where rules seem to bend at every corner. The hierarchy’s suspicion of Uuno’s motives collides with his cluelessness, creating a cascade of situations that test everyone around him and push the boundaries of reason in a way that fans of the series will recognize and relish.

In one of the most memorable scenes, Elisabeth Turhapuro [Marjatta Raita] dresses as Uuno and steps into an urgent meeting at a restaurant, hoping to buy time for him. Meanwhile, a derailed radio and a moment of mishap lead Tuura to accidentally declare war on Sweden. The error triggers a chain of consequences that culminates in a court-martial, with Uuno serving as Tuura’s defense attorney and turning the legal proceedings into a showcase of wit, chaos, and improvised improvisation.
