In a remote stretch of highway near a quiet New Mexican town, a brutal crash sets off a chilling chain of disappearances and a rash of dying animals. Sheriff Annie Flynn, Emmanuelle Vaugier, arrives to investigate and uncovers a clue that hints at something ancient and alien lurking behind the chaos. The incident ties back to an archaeological dig that unearthed a 900-year-old creature, a figure that seems to operate outside the laws of nature and humanity.

The mystery widens as a stranded group takes shelter at a gas station, a place that should offer refuge but instead becomes a nexus of danger. It isn’t long before the community learns that the creature is not a natural predator but an alien weapon, engineered by an extremely ancient civilization to harvest DNA. Think of it as a bio-technology probe with a single, brutal purpose: to collect life’s blueprint through lethal means.

Carla, Miranda Bailey, who works at a nearby bar, discovers dead male customers in the back lot. The creature then slips inside the bar, first injuring her arm and causing her to shoot herself in the foot, and eventually finishing her in a merciless act of slaughter. The scene marks the blunt, personal horror that threads through the larger invasion.

Inside the motel, Caya and Charlie, Beau Garrett and Tommy Dewey, share a tense moment as they flirt in the room, unaware that danger has followed them from the outskirts into the heart of their temporary sanctuary. Outside, Ally, Whitney Able, goes out to discard some garbage and runs into Grandpa, Russell Means, who mistakes her for a coyote rummaging through the trash. The uneasy encounter foreshadows the brutal reckoning to come. When Ally returns to the room, the creature bursts in and rips into her torso, a savage assault that ends with her body left burning on the stove, triggering a fire and a dangerous gas leak.

Annie, Nodin, and Grandpa try to rally and escape, moving toward safety as the monster bangs on walls and the building shudders. The tension peaks when Grandpa is killed and Nodin begins to panic, forcing Annie to take decisive action to save the remaining survivors. She knocks Nodin unconscious and the trio staggers toward the truck, a desperate bid to outrun the unstoppable threat. The motel room explodes behind them, a dramatic eruption that signals the collapse of their immediate world.

The battle with the creature stretches on, costlier and more brutal with each encounter. In the end, Annie confronts the monster in a final, desperate gambit: she believes she has killed it by slamming it against a water tank with her car, but the beast only lies dormant for a while. Nodin reveals a coded plan—he has prepared a poison containing uranium, the only substance capable of countering the alien’s physiology. Annie injects herself with the antidote-like poison, and the uranium-born reaction destroys the creature upon contact. The monster dies, but so does Annie, a self-sacrificing end that buys the others a chance to flee.

With Annie gone, the surviving duo, Caya and Nodin, load her body into the back of their truck and drive away, leaving the creature to lie buried in the dirt—likely to emerge again only in the memories of those who survived and the stories that linger in this desolate place. The tale leaves a lasting impression of a small town wrestling with an extraordinary threat, and of ordinary people who must decide how far they will go to stop something they barely understand.
