In the village of Vengaivasal, Vairavan and Mathangi are portrayed as a loving brother-sister pair whose bond anchors the story in a tight-knit community that values loyalty and abundance of local generosity. The opening scene follows two kids racing along a rural path, one tumbling into a well and meeting a tragic end, setting a haunting tone that reverberates through the entire tale. A villager arrives at Vairavan’s home pleading for help—his tractor has vanished and the police have treated him with disrespect—prompting Maragathavalli, Vairavan’s wife, to insist that her husband will stand by the community no matter what. It’s not long before it becomes clear that hitmen have been hired to kill [Vairavan], and he fights them off only after they kill a dog, unaware they had come for him. The film establishes [Vairavan] as a village don of considerable means who uses his power to do good for many, a figure who inspires both affection and fear.

Across from him, Sargunam, a schoolteacher and Mathangi’s husband, projects a starkly different philosophy. He believes in the rule of law and insists that disputes should be settled in court rather than by violence, a stance that creates friction with [Vairavan], whose methods are more immediate and personal. The tension between their approaches grows when [Vairavan]’s family life intersects with a larger plan to unite the two households. When [Vairavan]’s son, Vivek, returns from the United States for a visit, he confronts [Sargunam], bluntly telling him he no longer needs the support of his family. A flashback complicates the narrative: the two children who fell into the well were indeed [Sargunam]’s son and Vivek, a revelation that binds the families in tragedy. [Mathangi] leaps into action to save them, but cannot rescue both children; she makes the ultimate sacrifice, giving up her own son to save Vivek. The death reverberates through the household, and [Sargunam] blames [Vairavan] for the catastrophe, convinced that his brother-in-law’s influence and violence played a role in the accident.

To cement their alliance, the families contemplate an arranged match between Vivek and Keerthana, [Sargunam]’s daughter. But just as the engagement seems secure, [Keerthana] is stabbed, and [Sargunam] again points to [Vairavan]’s violent world as the catalyst for violence, even though neither he nor [Keerthana] has explicit enemies. The culprit turns out to be Adhiban, a seemingly affable man in the village who hides a predatory, predatorial nature as a serial sexual offender. [Vairavan] finds himself hunted by the police for beating people in the wake of the turmoil, while [Sargunam] feeds information about [Vairavan]’s whereabouts to authorities, focusing the net around Adhiban’s house.

In a chilling turn, [Mathangi] revisits Adhiban’s home and confronts him as he attempts to molest her; she kills him in self-defense, only to learn that he has a history of assault, including his attack on [Keerthana]. The brutal truth behind the borewell dispute emerges, and [Vairavan] disposes of Adhiban’s body to protect the larger community. As the pieces fall into place, [Sargunam] comes to a harder realization: the tangled web of violence, family duty, and vengeance binds the two families together in a way that calls for reconciliation rather than ongoing feud. In the end, the revelations lead to a fragile, hard-won unity between their households, with a renewed sense of mutual responsibility guiding a path forward for everyone involved.
