The film opens with a poignant slideshow narrated by Ebet, a ten-year-old boy living in Manila’s crowded Tondo district. Through his gaze, the movie sketches a world where poverty and crime press in on everyday life, yet where a young person still imagines a way to make a name for themselves. After a troubling moment when he witnesses his mother with another man during the Lakbayaw festival, he steps out of his home and follows three adolescents: Memey and brothers Pongke and Dennis. Dennis speaks softly about a burning wish to join the Thugz Angels, a gang anchored in freestyle rap, but his older companions warn that the streets carry real dangers.
