During a police raid at Villa Borghese, the agent Antonio Caccavallo, [Totò], a widower supporting a dependent child and an elderly parent, finds himself among a group of women who have been brought in as part of the operation, including Carolina De Vico, [Anna Maria Ferrero], who has run away from home after discovering she is pregnant. The raid sets off a tense dynamic as the authorities decide what to do with the young woman, and the case lands on the desk of the local commissioner, Il commissario Ascella, [Arnoldo Foà], who orders that Carolina be sent back to her family.
