What Is The Roses of the Desert About?

A sanitary battalion of the Italian Army is dispatched to the Sorman oasis in Libya during the 1940 North African campaign. An Italian missionary nearby converts the military presence into a humanitarian effort, with the troops assisting the local population. Yet the war continues indiscriminately, and the touted Fascist advance soon collapses into a rapid retreat.
