Marino Carlo Verdone and Glauco Enrico Montesano join the Carabinieri to seek stability and a sense of maturity through the discipline of the armed forces. They are joined by Adalberto Massimo Boldi, a frail heir to a rich family who hopes to grow more independent from overprotective parents. The three men forge a bond during training, navigating the rigors of military life while learning to rely on one another.

Across their training and early missions, the trio approaches life with a carefree, sometimes reckless spirit. They push boundaries and chase small thrills, even staging a fake police raid on a clandestine brothel in a bid to get free services, dipping into confiscated cocaine, and flirting with women who are victims of phone molestations. Their bravado masks underlying loyalty and a shared longing for purpose, as they test the limits of duty and friendship.

Tragedy strikes when Adalberto is killed in action, shattering the group’s dynamic and forcing them to confront what their choices have cost. The emotional fallout deepens a tense love triangle: Rita, Marino’s cousin [Paola Onofri], reciprocates Glauco’s feelings but only feels brotherly affection for Marino. The tension erupts as Marino, feeling betrayed by what he imagines as a competing romance, confronts Glauco in a moment of anger.
