Time Out for Lessons (1939): Cast & Plot

In this classic Our Gang comedy, Alfalfa [Carl Switzer] and the gang gear up for a big football game, with Spanky [George McFarland], Darla [Darla Hood], and Buckwheat [Billie Thomas] adding their own lively energy to the scene. But a fatherly talk soon shifts the mood: Alfalfa’s grades are raised as a real concern, and his [Si Wills] admonishment about a string of Grade “D” tests makes the stakes clear—if he can’t raise his academic standing, college could slip out of reach. Alfalfa shoots back with a wry line, “Don’t ‘D’ stand for ‘Dandy’?” and goes on to tell his father that he plans to sail through college on a football scholarship.
