The Damned 1947

Germany is on the verge of losing World War II, and a group of powerful Nazis and sympathizers from various countries crowd aboard a German submarine departing Oslo for a perilous journey toward South America. The tale is narrated by a French doctor, Docteur Guilbert Henri Vidal, who has been kidnapped to tend a sick woman on board. That patient is Hilde Garosi Florence Marly, and her husband, the German general Garosi Fosco Giachetti, is also on board. From the start, the doctor understands the precariousness of his position: he may be murdered once the woman recovers, so he attempts several stratagems to escape, though all of them fail as the ship presses onward under a heavy moral cloud.

As the war inches toward its end, faith aboard the vessel fractures.
