Mark is a kind, blond, blind teenage boy who has recently been plagued by disturbing visions. He shares a tense life with his older sister Christine and their stern, religious grandmother Bettine Milne. After a freak accident that takes the grandmother’s life, the siblings move to a rundown Venice hotel owned by their ailing aunt and a despondent uncle. When the aunt dies and the uncle kills himself, the children are left to their own devices. Christine seizes control, transforming the place into a bustling but unsettling brothel. Soon, [Christine] has become pregnant, despite claims of virginity, and her demeanor grows cruel toward Mark, edging toward sadism. Mark fears that all these events may echo the ominous vision of the birth of the Antichrist.
In his search for answers, Mark finds an ally in Giorgio, an artist and Christine’s ex-boyfriend. Together they probe a mysterious hotel guest who calls himself Dan, the possible father of Christine’s child. At the same time, a Catholic priest named Father Stefani begins to take a closer interest in Christine. With each revelation, the boundary between faith, power, and fate grows thinner, and Mark must decide whether he can stop the looming Apocalypse or if he is merely a pawn in a larger, devilish endgame.
