1087, a British Royal Navy motor gun boat, carries its crew through the worst the Second World War can throw at them. After the war, first lieutenant George Hoskins convinces former skipper Bill Randall and coxswain Birdie to buy the boat and try what he calls harmless, minor smuggling—starting with wine. The idea is simple, the profits are tempting, and the trio leans into the plan with a cautious optimism that soon proves dangerously fragile.

Yet the operation grows darker as they begin transporting ever more ominous cargoes, from counterfeit currency to weapons. What started as a casual dabble in smuggling quickly drags them into morally gray territory, and the once-reliable craft begins to show its strain. As the crew tangles with these shadowy assignments from Maj. Fordyce, the 1087 itself starts to falter, breaking down more and more as tension rises aboard.

The balance inside the boat shatters when a passenger is revealed to be the child murderer Raines being aided to escape justice, a discovery that provokes a revolutionary impulse among the crew. The sense of loyalty frays as fear and anger push them toward rebellion, shaking the ship’s already precarious stability.

In a brutal turn, Brewster, the customs officer who confronts Fordyce, is shot and dies, but not before naming the culprit to Birdie. The revelation tightens the noose around Fordyce and forces the crew to face a choice about where their loyalties truly lie. The confrontation leaves Birdie wounded and sets a chain of deadly decisions in motion.
