In Madrid, a middle-aged man driving his car rams into the rear of a vehicle driven by Sonsoles Mar Regueras. They quarrel, and the frustrated businessman begins harassing her by sending lewd messages on his phone. He stalks her, and this fixation leads him to the school where her 15-year-old sister María María Valverde studies. He follows her and introduces himself with a false name and profession. They start spending time together, first in a park and then at a swimming complex. María later learns that the man she is seeing is Pablo López. However, after an initial reluctance, she gives in and they resume their meetings. Meanwhile, a colleague of Pablo woos him, but he rebuffs her advances as he has grown to care for María. Meanwhile, Sonsoles’s older lover installs a device in her landline that traces unknown numbers, revealing that Pablo is behind the harassment. Yet she does not know about her sister’s involvement with him, and she sends goons after him to teach him a lesson. When the goons target Pablo, María is with him, and she is molested. Pablo tries to save her, but he is captured; and when María tries to fend off the attackers by striking one with her knee, she is killed on the spot. Pablo, overwhelmed by sorrow and grief, stays by her until the police arrive and he is arrested. In prison, he experiences a flashback of María and becomes elated.
