Spoilers ahead
The Man Who Came Back is a historical drama loosely based on the Thibodaux massacre, a pivotal moment that marks the culmination of the sugar cane industry’s most significant strike. In this era, about 10,000 workers halted labor, and the movement was led by the Knights of Labor, one of the first formal labor organizations in the region. The conflict grew brutally deadly, with estimates of 50 or more African-American cane workers killed by white paramilitary forces, making it the second bloodiest labor strike in United States history.
