Set in 19th-century Mexico, El Charro, Andrew Bryniarski (voice by Danny Trejo), is a wealthy but diabolical land baron who falls for an innocent ancestor of Maria. When she scorns him, El Charro tears through her circle of loved ones and places a curse on Maria’s bloodline that will echo across generations.
Fast forward to the 21st century. Drew Mia stars as Maria, and Heidi Androl plays her roommate Chris. On what starts as a casual weekend escape with friends — including Kathryn Taylor Smith as Tanya and KellyDawn Malloy as Rosemary — they travel to Chris’s uncle’s cottage in Arizona. Maria is troubled by recurring nightmares about her sister’s suicide, a haunting that hints at the danger to come. The group bonds over college life while a lurking threat tightens its grip on them, and the sunny getaway begins to feel increasingly claustrophobic.
Night falls, and El Charro returns as a revenant with a machete, stalking the girls and killing them one by one until only Maria remains to face the centuries-old shadow.
She reaches a shrine to the archangel Michael, where celestial intervention unfolds. The archangel wields divine power to vanquish El Charro and break the curse, saving Maria’s line and bringing a fragile peace to the present.
