Vir Jagannath Mhatre, a young man hailing from a humble village in Maharashtra, harbors a bold vision to transform Indian aviation by creating a low-cost airline that would make flying accessible to the common people. His dream is fueled by a strong conviction that economic and social divides in society can be bridged through affordable air travel, empowering the marginalized and fostering greater mobility. However, his journey is fraught with ideological clashes, particularly with his father, a non-violent teacher who believes in gradual societal change achieved through education rather than direct confrontation. Their contrasting views create a persistent tension, highlighting the generational and ideological differences that challenge Vir’s resolve.

The story takes a tragic turn when Vir’s father falls gravely ill just when he needs to secure an emergency flight ticket costing ₹5,200. Despite his desperate attempts to find help, his pleas go unheard, and airport authorities refuse him boarding. Unable to afford the ticket, Vir is forced to take a train instead, arriving too late at his father’s side, only to learn that he has already passed away. This heartbreaking incident becomes a catalyst, intensifying Vir’s determination to revolutionize the aviation industry in India and fulfill his late father’s hopes.

In pursuit of his goal, Vir joins the Indian Air Force, gaining discipline and experience, but soon leaves to focus solely on launching his airline. Alongside two fellow trainees, he begins developing his vision, aiming to challenge the dominance of major airlines. Vir approaches Paresh Rawal, a powerful and influential aviation tycoon, seeking investment for his project. Unfortunately, Paresh dismisses Vir’s concept of a “flying Udupi hotel” with scorn, mocking his humble idea of affordable air travel. This initial rejection marks the beginning of their rivalry, with Paresh actively working against Vir’s aspirations through corruption, bureaucratic delays, and manipulating industry regulations.

Despite facing numerous setbacks, Vir’s resilience remains unshaken. He finds profound support from his wife, Radhikka Madan, who shares his passion and runs a successful bakery. Their relationship blossoms on mutual respect and a shared desire to challenge societal norms—Rani had previously rejected over 20 marriage proposals, proving her independent spirit and compatibility with Vir’s ambitious nature.

Years of perseverance eventually see Vir launching Deccan Air, a fleet equipped with Boeing 737 aircraft designed to fulfill his vision of affordable, accessible air travel. Yet, just as the airline starts its operations, tragedy strikes again. A flight suffers critical engine failure on the runway—an incident later revealed to be orchestrated by Paresh Rawal, further tarnishing the airline’s reputation and threatening its survival.

Financial problems compound as ticket prices soar to three times those of Paresh’s airline, leading to a dramatic decline in passenger numbers. The situation peaks when a scheduled Mumbai-to-Pune flight is canceled due to low demand, making it appear as though Deccan Air is doomed. As passengers flock to Paresh’s competing airline, Vir faces an almost insurmountable challenge.

However, in a startling turn of events, Paresh confesses to Vir that he had sabotaged Deccan Air’s engines, revealing that the malfunction was also influenced by a software bug at Mumbai’s airport system. As Paresh flees the scene, Vir notices that flights from smaller cities such as Pune and Vijayawada are still operational under his airline. This realization fuels a glimmer of hope, reaffirming his belief that his vision to democratize air travel is still alive. With renewed determination, Vir is committed to rebuilding his airline, fighting against corruption and industry manipulation, and continuing his mission to ensure that the skies are open to everyone, regardless of their social status or financial means.
