Rise of the Footsoldier 4: Marbella Echo Score Breakdown
Rise of the Footsoldier 4: Marbella delivers a modestly entertaining entry in its franchise, leaning on familiar gangster tropes and a heavy dose of profanity. Reviewers highlight the film's straightforward plot and occasional comedic moments, while noting its lack of originality and uneven craftsmanship. The overall impression is that it satisfies genre enthusiasts but offers little beyond predictable action and limited artistic ambition.
Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 62
In terms of art and craft, the film shows uneven execution. Some reviewers commend the Marbella sequences for being well‑shot, yet others criticize the overall visual style as cheap and lacking coherent editing. Direction is seen as serviceable but unremarkable, and production design receives no notable praise. The net impression is a mixed, slightly below‑average technical effort.
- Character & Emotion 70
When it comes to character and emotion, Craig Fairbrass’s performance stands out as a strong point, with many citing his brutal portrayal as compelling. Supporting actors receive mixed feedback, ranging from wooden to enjoyable. Emotional resonance is limited, but the chemistry between the leads provides occasional humor. Overall, character work is above average within the genre's expectations.
- Story & Flow 55
Regarding story and flow, the narrative is described as simple and easy to follow, yet also repetitive and unoriginal. Some viewers appreciate the tight, comedic pacing, while others label the plot as stale and lacking coherence. The film does not challenge the viewer intellectually, resulting in a middling assessment of its storytelling quality.
- Sensory Experience 68
In the sensory experience, the soundtrack receives positive mentions, and certain visual scenes, especially in Marbella, are praised for their execution. However, criticism arises over excessive profanity and occasional sound design issues. The film’s auditory and visual elements are adequate, offering enough engagement to support the action without standing out as exceptional.
- Rewatch Factor 72
For rewatch factor, many reviewers express willingness to view the film again, citing its entertainment value and the appeal of recurring franchise elements. While some consider it a filler entry, the combination of humor, action, and familiar characters encourages repeat viewings for genre fans. The overall rewatch potential is therefore fairly strong.
