On a Caribbean island, a nuclear power plant project moves forward despite the natives’ resistance. The islanders organize a small, secret resistance led by their love goddess Papaya Melissa Chimenti. This group gradually draws in the project’s engineers to learn more about the facility, including Vincent. Tension mounts as the engineers are found murdered in brutal acts that hint at cannibalism.

During a holiday on the island, sociocritical journalist Sara finds herself drawn into the drama as she meets the plant’s engineer. The two strike up an uneasy connection during a casual excursion, and they encounter Papaya again. The locals invite them to a traditional ritual known as Celebration of the Red Stone, where the participants are drugged and rendered docile.

Days later, Sara is abducted by two members of the organization. She learns that Vincent has become a target for murder, and that she herself is being spared only to report on the suppression. Vincent surrenders to Papaya and is killed, while Sara grows close to the island’s male rebel leader and enters into a passionate romance with him. This new bond awakens Papaya’s jealousy, and she drags Sara into another tender, erotic relationship. By the film’s end, Sara has been won over by the rebels’ cause.
