Pals and Gals 1954

In this energetic Western-set comedy, the Three Stooges — Moe, Larry, and Shemp — face a medical scare that sends them on a strange journey. Ailment strikes Shemp: an enlarged vein in his leg triggers fears of amputation, and, following medical advice, the trio heads to an Old West frontier town in search of relief and a cure.

Arriving in a lawless frontier town, they cross paths with the infamous outlaw Doc Barker, whose presence looms large over the community. The situation sharpens when Nell Nell exposes Barker’s true identity as an outlaw who has her sisters captive, turning the trio from wary travelers into uneasy allies of the distressed woman.

With Nell’s plea at the center, the Stooges devise a plan to reach the prison cell where her sisters are held. One Stooge faces Barker in a tense poker game, while the others craft a potent beverage containing various hazardous substances to incapacitate the outlaws; for safety, a harmless sarsaparilla is given to the injured member. Barker, unaware of the ruse, drinks the concoction and, when he asks for water, the plan shifts into high gear, and the gang is drenched with a fire hose, allowing the keys to be seized and Nell’s sisters freed.

Barker dies of heart failure during the poker game, and his gang targets the remaining member of the trio. The escape unfolds as the sisters seek help beyond town while the Stooge code-switches into Southern attire to slip away—only to be spotted by a gang member, sparking a frantic chase that drives them out of town. Cornered outside, the Stooge uses a gun belt as improvised ammunition to intimidate the attackers into retreat, securing a hard-won victory for the trio and their new ally, Nell.
