The Stooges—Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard—run a small cafe called the Jive Cafe, but mounting debt pushes them to take a side job pasting posters for a penny apiece. When a flyer promises a big payday, they set their sights on a cow milking contest with a grand prize of $100, and Curly is chosen to represent them. The trio scours the area for a suitable practice cow, hoping to squeeze out a win.

A string of slapstick setbacks unfolds while they hunt for the animal. They spy what looks like a cow behind a fence, only to discover it’s a bull, leading to chaotic mishaps as Curly’s attempts at milking go wrong—he’s toppled over a fence twice and later flung onto a nearby telephone pole. The day wears on with misfires and pratfalls, and Curly earns the nickname “K. O. Bossy” as the trio’s misfortune grows.

On contest day, Curly, still unable to coax even a single drop of milk, faces the crowd’s mounting skepticism. Desperate to salvage the plan, Moe and Larry improvise a ruse: they don a cow costume and conceal a jug of milk inside a fake udder. The deception seems to work at first, but disaster arrives when Curly accidentally detaches the mock udder, triggering a spectacular milk spill that drenches the stage.

The ruse collapses in spectacular fashion, and Curly’s awkward performance leads to disqualification. A heated confrontation with the contest’s winner erupts, and the Stooges are booed off the stage as the audience roars in laughter at their failed scheme.

Supporting moments add to the mayhem, including brief appearances by Hotcakes Customer (uncredited) played by Vernon Dent and Egg Customer (uncredited) played by Heinie Conklin, who contribute to the film’s chaotic atmosphere without stealing the spotlight from the trio.
