Busy Bodies 1933

Stan Stan Laurel and Ollie Oliver Hardy set off in their Ford Model T, beginning new carpentry work at a sawmill, with a makeshift wind-up phonograph tucked under the hood to provide music on the road. The journey itself becomes part of the comedy as the duo navigates the car’s quirks and lets the tune guide their mood toward a day of labor and laughter.

Upon arrival, their day at the sawmill unfolds with a string of slapstick mishaps: accidental nudges with wooden planks and a comical moment where Stan causes Ollie’s hands to be trapped in a window frame. As the shift continues, they dip into a streak of playful mischief, tricking a coworker into smoking despite posted regulations, and sharing a lighthearted exchange involving torn pants and a paintbrush that leaves a bright smear on their clothes.

Ollie is propelled through a ventilator duct and out of an attic vent, prompting Stan to climb a ladder in a frantic bid to help. The rescue attempt takes a disastrous turn when a barrel of shellac is knocked loose, sending Stan and Ollie tumbling from the vent port along with the ladder. Bystanders below are swept up in the chaos, with one man plunging into a vat of whitewash and another seeking shelter in a shed that is crushed on impact.

After helping their foreman out of the wreckage, the duo hurry to flee, only to have their escape thwarted when their car is sawed in half by a large band saw. Undeterred, Stan salvages the phonograph from the wreckage and tries to enjoy a bit of music, much to Ollie’s chagrin. The sequence captures their stubborn optimism, quick wits, and undeniable chemistry as they stumble from one ridiculous predicament to the next, turning a hard day into a string of memorable moments.
