Spoilers ahead
In this taut thriller, a mild-mannered accountant named Gene Watson travels with his daughter Lynn Watson to the bustle of Union Station in Los Angeles. While Gene uses a payphone, two shrouded strangers—Mr. Smith and Ms. Jones—scope the scene, quietly laying the groundwork for a plan that feels ominous even before it’s fully explained. When Gene intervenes to defend his daughter from a skater’s harassment, the uneasy pair fixate on him, flashing badges and posing as police. In a swift, unsettling move, they kidnap both father and daughter and haul them into a waiting van. m. unless Gene murders a woman depicted in a photograph—the governor, Eleanor Grant.
