Ananthan Thampi, Mohanlal, is a middle‑aged man who has sworn never to marry, convinced that tying the knot would steal his youth and masculinity. He channels his energy into bodybuilding and keeps his physique in peak condition, choosing a lifelong bachelorhood that his friends jokingly call his creed. His two loyal assistants, Rajappan and Varadappan, stand by him—Rajappan, portrayed by Jagadish, and Varadappan, portrayed by Jagathy Sreekumar—even as they quietly dream of their own marriages and loves.

His parents, Subhadramma and Shekharan Thampi, make constant sacrifices in temples in hopes that their son will reconsider. Subhadramma is brought to life on screen by Kaviyoor Ponnamma, while Shekharan Thampi is depicted by Nedumudi Venu, both dedicated to guiding Thampi toward a different path. Thampi’s sister Nirmala and her husband, V. Venugopalan Thampi (VVT), enjoy the comforts of Thampi’s substantial inheritance and are delighted with his single status, a situation that seems secure as long as the bachelor rule stands.

Ganga, along with her family, moves into the Thampi neighborhood, bringing new life to the community. Vasumathi, an elderly teacher who transfers to the area, rents a home from Shekharan Thampi and has four daughters: Sindhu, the eldest who is already married, and Ganga, Yamuna, and Kaveri, who live with their mother. When Ganga’s family arrives, unloading becomes a challenge because local laborers demand high wages, threatening to overwhelm the newcomers. To protect his sister’s pride, Ananthan Thampi ends up unloading all of Ganga’s goods by himself, shouldering the burden with a quiet resolve that underscores his stubborn but sometimes compassionate nature.

The plot takes a turn when Aravindan, a man seeking a job at Thampi’s cable firm, approaches the bachelor patriarch. Vijayakumar plays Aravindan, and Thampi, convinced that Aravindan is Ganga’s lover, offers to help arrange their marriage. This belief triggers a series of humorous misunderstandings and social tensions as Thampi twists and turns to manage the situation. The situation escalates into a dilemma that challenges Thampi’s lifelong vow, culminating in a surprising and transformative development: Thampi finds himself drawn into a marriage with Ganga, set against the backdrop of family duty, pride, and the evolving dynamics of a community that is used to seeing him as the steadfast bachelor Thampi Annan.
