In a wealthy household, Shonai serves as a loyal man-servant in the home of Gazi, a powerful, affluent figure. His son, Halim, is mentally unstable. After Halim murders a woman who works in the house, Gazi forces Shonai to shoulder the blame, sparing Halim. Shonai is banished to the remote island Monpura, where life takes an unexpected turn and he finds himself stranded with new possibilities.

On Monpura, Shonai meets Pori, the daughter of a fisherman, and a quiet and growing love begins to blossom between them. Gazi, upon seeing Pori, begins to plot a future where Halim would marry her, even though he had previously pledged to Shonai that he would approach Pori’s father to arrange Shonai’s own marriage. At first, Pori’s father refuses, not wanting his daughter to wed a man with no land or wealth, but when Gazi hints at transferring property and wealth, the father slowly changes his mind and agrees to the proposal.

Shonai learns of Gazi’s scheme and goes to Pori’s home to plead his case with her father. The elder bans him, insults his poverty, and makes it clear that a marriage to a landless man is unacceptable. The couple decide to flee together the following night, desperate to be together away from the oppressive schemes around them. But fate intervenes: Shonai is arrested for the very murder he was blamed for, and Pori waits through the night for news that never comes.

Pori is then married to Halim, against her will, and her life becomes tangled in unhappiness as Halim’s instability dominates their days. A visit from Pori’s chachi and father offers a fleeting glimmer of hope, and Pori clings to the belief that Shonai might still come for her. Shonai, meanwhile, longs to be free again so that he can reunite with her.

A cruel decree then emerges: the wife of Gazi declares that Shonai will be executed on Friday at 12:01 am to erase his memory from Pori, a cruel attempt to sever their bond. Yet justice prevails, and Shonai is found innocent and released on Saturday. However, the news arrives too late for Pori—believing he would be executed, she drinks poison at midnight that Friday and dies. When Shonai arrives the next morning, he is shattered by the sight of her death and the weight of the consequences that followed their forbidden love.
