What is the name of Sakthi's father?
Read the complete plot summary of Kireedam, including all major events, twists, and the full ending explained in detail. Explore key characters, themes, hidden meanings, and everything you need to understand the story from beginning to end.
In Trichy, Rajarajan, Rajkiran, a police constable, lives with his loving wife and their two sons and two daughters. He dreams his elder son Sakthivel “Sakthi,” Ajith Kumar, will become a police sub-inspector, and his unwavering honesty shapes every decision he makes—even when it lands him in trouble. Sakthi, meanwhile, proposes to Divya, Trisha Krishnan, after a few chances and a growing connection, and she reciprocates. Rajarajan, thrilled by their romance, arranges their engagement. Sakthi clears his sub-inspector exams and heads to Chennai for the interview, carrying the weight of his father’s hopes.
Yet life takes a sharp turn when Rajarajan reprimands an MLA’s son for a traffic offense. The MLA demands an apology, but Rajarajan refuses, which leads to his punishment: a transfer to Kodiyakkarai under the tyrannical don Varadan, Ajay, who controls the harbor and inspires fear in the locals. When Rajarajan arrests one of Varadan’s henchmen, Varadan strikes back, beating him. Sakthi, who happens to be at the market, intervenes to protect his father. Varadan attacks Sakthi, but Sakthi overpowers him, dashing Rajarajan’s dream of a police career for his son. The villagers celebrate Sakthi’s bravery, yet Varadan, recovering from his injuries, swears revenge.
Varadan and his associates are later implicated in the murder of Munnar Ravi, and a bar fight sparked by Sakthi’s friend Kumar casts more shadows on Sakthi’s name. Chellapandi, an associate of Varadan’s rival group, teams up with Sakthi’s brother-in-law to capitalize on Sakthi’s rising fame, steering money through his notoriety. Sakthi confronts and beats Chellapandi and his brother-in-law for misusing his name. The brother-in-law feigns innocence, shifting the blame onto Sakthi. Trusting his brother-in-law, Rajarajan, already worried about Sakthi’s supposed fall from grace, expels him from their home. Divya’s parents plan to cancel the engagement and seek another match for Divya.
Varadan’s men, Maasilamani and Jayakumar, are released on bail and immediately pursue Sakthi, attacking him in a crowded road and creating a public uproar. Sakthi flees, but the pursuit continues, and he must defend himself by beating Maasilamani and Jayakumar. At the police station, Rajarajan, initially elated by Sakthi’s exam success, later reprimands and chastises him, then reassures Divya’s father that Sakthi will stay away from their plans, prompting Sakthi to sacrifice his love for the moment. The inspector, Ravi Kale, cautions the family as events intensify.
Sakthi returns to Trichy, where Divya finally confesses her enduring love for him. Varadan, intent on drawing Sakthi back to Kodiyakkarai, targets Sakthi’s family. An alert sub-inspector sends Sakthi back, determined to settle the score with Varadan once and for all. Sakthi deliberately allows Varadan to beat him, hoping this will spare his family if he dies. Yet he regains the upper hand, subdues Varadan, and kills him in front of Rajarajan and the police, ensuring his family’s safety. Nonetheless, the court acquits Sakthi, recognizing Varadan as a social menace and viewing Sakthi’s future with hope. In the end, Rajarajan’s dream comes true as Sakthi assumes the role of sub-inspector.
