To honor their education and future, he borrows a substantial sum of money—₹30,000—against his father’s reservations, hoping to give them a chance at a better life. The siblings’ greed soon diverges from Dharmadurai’s integrity. Rajadurai, who marries off the daughter Vaibhavi (to protect him from jail), and Ramadurai use Dharmadurai’s generosity to fuel a life of illicit gains. The two brothers throw themselves into a Madras-based smuggling operation, and their initial success quickly curdles into a reckless double-cross. They keep the goods intended for their smuggling boss, Jose, for themselves and retaliate by lodging a false police complaint against Jose’s son, Ajay, as a way to consolidate power and wealth. The money and influence they accumulate obscure the cost of their actions, and the elder Dharmadurai becomes increasingly sidelined in his own family’s plans.

A turn of events deepens the rift. Dharmadurai travels to Madras when Ramadurai is about to marry a wealthy girl and depart for the United States to “pursue higher studies.” The reception Dharmadurai receives is icy and humiliating. The farewell party turns into a stark reminder that the brothers have betrayed him and exploited his generosity for their own advancement. The tension peaks when Ajay, freshly released from jail, returns to the household with lethal intent, intending to kill Ramadurai in retaliation for the earlier double-cross. Ramadurai dies, and in a moment of grim loyalty and fear, Dharmadurai agrees to take the blame for the murder. The consequence is a seven-year prison sentence for Dharmadurai, while his brothers manage to have Jose and his gang members arrested.
