Kaashi in Search of Ganga 2018

Kaashi (Sharman Joshi) leads a simple, hopeful life with his parents and his sister, Ganga (Priyanka Singh). When Ganga fails to return from college one night, Kaashi embarks on a determined search, enlisting Devina (Aishwarya Devan) and filing a police report. The next day, he visits her college; the principal checks the records but cannot confirm that Ganga ever studied there. On the way home, two men claim to have information about her whereabouts, but they refuse to share. Kaashi confronts them, and the clash leaves him frustrated but more resolute in his quest.

Devina tracks down one of Ganga’s college friends. The friend seems cooperative but frightened, telling Devina that Ganga was having an affair with Abhimanyu, the son of a local strongman, Balwant. The friend says she hasn’t seen Ganga since she became pregnant. Enraged, Kaashi confronts Balwant (Govind Namdev) and demands the safe return of his sister. Balwant indicates that Abhimanyu is in Mussoorie, pushing Devina and Kaashi to chase the lead and make the journey north.

In Mussoorie, Kaashi locates Abhimanyu in a hotel room with another woman. Abhimanyu claims he doesn’t know who Ganga is, and the tense interrogation escalates until Kaashi’s suspicions explode into violence, ending with Abhimanyu’s death and Kaashi’s arrest.

A disfigured body is later found and identified as Ganga, based on the clothing she wore. The case moves to court as witnesses come and go, some denying Ganga’s existence, others insisting on the family’s pain. Kaashi’s parents are frequently missing, fueling suspicion that Balwant may be involved, given Abhimanyu’s absence from Mussoorie at the time. A psychiatrist later diagnoses Kaashi with schizophrenia, deepening the complexity of the legal battle.

In the courtroom, arguments flare as the defense and prosecutors clash. The proceedings are overseen by Judge (Manoj Pahwa), while Kaashi’s case is defended by Kaashi’s Lawyer (Manoj Joshi) and Balwant’s Lawyer (Akhilendra Mishra). Amid the turmoil, Kaashi snaps and fatally shoots Balwant.

Admitted to a psychiatric facility, Kaashi begins to question his own grip on reality. Devina reveals that she has been the architect of the entire tragedy. She confides in the girl who had claimed to be Ganga’s friend, explaining that her motive was revenge—though she insists it would not come at Kaashi’s expense. She also reveals that Balwant was her father’s business partner and had killed her family fifteen years earlier, and that Ganga’s “college friend” was actually Devina’s sister. Facing the truth, Kaashi confesses his love for Devina and, in a shocking turn, kills her, lying beside her dead body.

In the final scene, Kaashi sits as an inmate in a psychiatric ward, yet he hallucinates a life where he is happily living with Devina and his family.
