After graduating college, two friends named Katie and Sloan decide to spend a month working on a rural, organic farm, with plans for a future trip to New York City. Katie’s uncle, an FBI agent, drives them to the bus station and asks them to send him a daily coded text to keep tabs on their safety as they travel.
As Katie and Sloan wait for the bus at a restaurant, two handsome boys, Lucas and Jed, offer them a ride to the farm. Although Katie is hesitant, Sloan pushes her to accept, and the pair climb into their truck. The journey quickly derails: instead of heading to the farm, the boys detour to Jed’s family home, where they are introduced to Jed’s mother, Mother. She serves them food that leaves them dizzy and powerless, and once they come to, they find themselves in their underwear and chained inside large storage containers buried in the woods.
The girls learn they are trapped in a sexual exploitation ring run by Boris. Boris pores over Katie’s phone, notices the coded texts, and—but unaware that the code must be changed daily—sends a message claiming everything is fine. He orders the boys to prep the girls, and they are then assaulted by the local sheriff, a man in a pig mask, and another local. The scene is brutal and calculated, a grim orchestration that underscores the danger they’re in.
Back home, Katie’s FBI-connected uncle grows alarmed as the pattern of disappearances continues. He confronts the local sheriff and presses for real answers, but the sheriff’s assurances only complicate things. Boris, alerted to the FBI’s presence, orders Jed to dispose of the evidence and to “dump them where they dumped the others.” Undeterred, the uncle later speaks with a restaurant employee who recognizes the missing pair and recalls seeing them depart with two boys in a blue truck. Using that description, he tracks the owner to Boris and intensifies the hunt.
Back at the storage containers, Katie fights for her life and, at a pivotal moment, kills one of the men by biting into his jugular. She seizes the keys, freeing herself and Sloan, who has lost her pants and must improvise her escape while evading capture. When the sheriff finally arrives at the scene, he discovers the body of the local assailant but is confronted by the sight of his police car missing—driven away by the two determined girls. They load up on makeshift weapons from a hardware store, steeling themselves for revenge.
Boris returns home to find himself ambushed by the two young women. Under interrogation, he reluctantly reveals information about the remaining accomplices, and once he yields, he is killed. With the uncle in tow, Katie and Sloan hunt down the last of the perpetrators and execute them in increasingly inventive ways until every participant in the plan is dead.
Weeks later, the uncle visits Katie and Sloan as they prepare for their New York trip. Katie’s mother asks if she should be worried, and the uncle answers with quiet conviction: “They’re smart girls, they’ll be fine.” A final, eerie moment lingers at the airport as a mysterious man with a sign for organic farms greets another potential pair of victims, suggesting that danger still lurks just beyond the horizon.
They’re smart girls, they’ll be fine.
