Eight years into their marriage, Sandhya and Nikhil enjoy a comfortable Mumbai life with their daughter Rashmi, a picture of urban success. Coming from modest roots, they have climbed through merit: Sandhya is an editor at a publishing house, while Nikhil is a dedicated research scientist, and their circle reflects an affluent, intellectual milieu that suits their aspirations.

On their eighth wedding anniversary, a friend introduces his nephew, Rahul, a gifted classical singer. Sandhya is soon drawn to him, and despite loving her husband, she becomes involved in an affair with Rahul that lasts a few months. The confidential nature of the liaison is kept close, with Prabha—their only confidante—being told about the affair in a private, intimate way.

Around this same period, Sandhya discovers she is pregnant, but the couple makes the difficult decision to abort the child, choosing to protect their carefully crafted life together. The emotional strain of the secret affair lingers, shaping their perceptions of fidelity, desire, and commitment.

About a year later, Nikhil reveals his own reckoning: he intends to leave Sandhya, having fallen in love with a much younger lab assistant named Vrinda. This revelation shatters the sense of stability they had built, and Sandhya pleads with him to reconsider, but the couple ultimately separates, beginning a new chapter defined by distance and reflection.

Four years into the aftermath of the divorce, Nikhil comes to a sobering realization: his feelings for Vrinda never equaled the depth of love he once shared with Sandhya. He decides to try to re-enter her life, seeking a second chance at a shared future. When the two finally reconnect after years apart, Sandhya chooses a candid path—she decides to confess to him the truth about her own affair with Rahul, laying bare the complexities of love, loyalty, and the consequences of desire.
