Milea is in a relationship with Dilan, but their romance quickly encounters serious turbulence. [Dilan] becomes entangled with an aggressive school motorbike gang that fights almost every other day, a pattern that eventually leads to his expulsion. Despite the mounting chaos, Milea stays patient and tries to understand him, hoping the bond can weather the storm. Meanwhile, Milea’s cousin Yugo returns from Belgium and begins to act in ways that feel invasive and unsettling toward Milea, casting a shadow over the youthful romance.

One night, Milea discovers that [Dilan] is planning an attack and warns him that the relationship will end if he cannot change his ways. In a moment that underscores the distance forming between them, Yugo appears in a car, and [Dilan] ignores Milea, a choice that coincides with him being arrested for using his father’s pistol. After this, Milea’s parents urge her to spend time with Yugo around Bandung, leading to tense situations. In a cinema, Yugo tries to kiss Milea, and she firmly asks him not to see her again. During an awkward apology meeting, Milea brings [Dilan] to scare off Yugo, signaling the fragile state of their alliance.

As the story unfolds, Milea learns that [Dilan] is involved in yet another attack. This time, his mother kicks him out, and he ends up sheltering at the house of the gang’s leader. Milea, exhausted by the cycle of violence, slaps him and declares a breakup. The confrontation between Dilan and Milea crescendos when [Dilan’s mother] confronts him at a stadium, and he walks away, leaving Milea crying in the arms of her own mother. The fallout of these events leads Milea to graduate from college and for her family to move away from their longtime home.

Fast-forward to 1995 in Jakarta: [Milea] is now married to her college friend [Herdi] and they encounter [Dilan] again at an office building where the three of them happen to work. Dilan tells her that he is leaving for Surabaya that night. Milea makes a last-ditch effort to catch the train he’s boarding, but her attempt fails. Jumping ahead to 2018, in her apartment, she writes the final lines of her memoir, a direct echo of the novel by Pidi Baiq on which the film is based, closing a chapter that began in a complicated, passion-filled romance decades earlier.
