Cowboy Bebop: The Movie 2001

A few days before Halloween on Mars, Faye Valentine witnesses a tanker explode during a bounty chase, and the blast releases a mysterious pathogen that kills and sickens many. The Martian government posts an astounding 300 million Woolong bounty for the culprit, pulling the Bebop crew into a high-stakes hunt. With help from Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivruski IV, they identify the terrorist as Vincent Volaju(/actor/tsutomu-isobe), a soldier believed dead on Titan who survived the same test but is haunted by amnesia and vivid, dangerous hallucinations.

Jet Black learns that the pathogen is a nanomachine—an illegal bioweapon manufactured by Cherious Medical, a pharmaceutical company at the heart of the conspiracy. Spike Spiegel attempts to capture Vincent, but the madman knocks him from a moving train and releases another cloud of nanomachines, killing everyone on board except for Elektra Ovirowa, who was immune thanks to a past relationship with Vincent. She quietly passes a blood sample to a contact inside Cherious Medical, triggering the production of a targeted vaccine.

Vincent plans to unleash doom by detonating enormous jack-o’-lantern balloons during Mars’s Halloween parade, releasing nanomachines across the city. To stop him, Jet assembles a crew of aging crop-duster pilots to disperse an antidote, while Faye hijacks the city’s weather-control system to drive rain that helps spread the vaccine more evenly. A climactic showdown pits Spike against Vincent, and though the two duel to a stalemate, the vaccine begins to circulate just as the nanomachines are released.

In a final, human moment, Elektra shoots Vincent as memories of their time together resurface, and Vincent dies with a quiet, almost tender farewell. With the threat neutralized and the vaccine spreading, the Bebop crew can return to their usual lives, and the city, for a moment, breathes a safer Halloween air.
