In Madrid, Roberto Orbea stands at the center of a turbulent political moment: a Marxist-Leninist deputy in a newly legalized party, and at the same time a married man living a hidden life as a closeted homosexual. His private reality is a threat to the public persona he must maintain, and it isn’t long before his enemies—rooted in a rising fascist current—discover the fracture. To weaponize this secret, they enlist [Juanito](/actor/pedro-mari-sn Sanchez) to seduce the politician. What begins as manipulation soon deepens into something real, as the two men grow close and unexpectedly fall in love, turning political stakes into personal conviction.

That forbidden relationship becomes a blunt instrument of extortion, explaining why Orbea cannot be elevated to the role of secretary general within his party. The film frames this struggle as a clash between a rigid orthodox Marxism and the possibility of authentic self-expression, a clash embodied in the presence of Eloy de la Iglesia’s character—the Man at rally—who, through his portrayal, underscores how a political ideology can stigmatize private truths. Eloy de la Iglesia is highlighted here as Eloy de la Iglesia, and the story makes clear that the path toward fulfillment lies in resisting confinement and choosing to come out.

Facing mounting pressure and danger to his personal and political future, Orbea confronts the decisive step of revealing his true identity. The film builds toward a pivotal moment when he is about to address his party colleagues and publicly acknowledge his homosexuality. At that instant, the camera’s shot rings out, and the image freezes, marking a dramatic turn from private to public life. The stillness that follows suggests that freedom exists beyond the polarized spectrum of left and right, and that the journey toward personal authenticity has its own irreplaceable direction.
