Colt Comrades 1943

Hopalong Cassidy [William Boyd], Johnny Travers [Jay Kirby], and California Carlson [Andy Clyde] pool their resources to purchase a 50% stake in the Whitlock ranch, which is owned by Lin Whitlock [George Reeves] and Lucy Whitlock [Teddi Sherman]. The property sits on the edge of foreclosure after an unpaid water bill accrues under the control of Jeb Hardin [Victor Jory], the local land baron who commands the valley’s water rights and dominates the cattlemen’s association, making life extremely difficult for independent ranchers.

Determined to build a future for the land, the trio leaves the U.S. Marshal Service to devote themselves to the ranch. Instead of simply covering the overdue bill, California Carlson is drawn into a plan proposed by Wildcat Willie [Earle Hodgins] to pursue oil drilling, hoping for a windfall. This shift sparks tension among the partners, as some fear the move could jeopardize the ranch they’ve set out to save.

As drilling begins, Hardin’s grip tightens and his influence blocks alternative solutions, leaving the group to navigate mounting pressure from a powerful opponent who wants to maintain control over the valley. Just when hope seems dim, the drilling operation unexpectedly strikes water rather than oil. The surprise discovery saves the ranch, undermines Hardin’s monopoly, and restores a fragile balance to the community, signaling a new chapter for everyone who depends on the land.
