Avakai Biryani (Pickled Biryani) follows a coming-of-age journey in the picturesque town of Devarakonda, about 100 km from Hyderabad, where two young people from starkly different backgrounds chase their own dreams.

Akbar Kalam, Kamal Kamaraju, is an orphan from the Muslim community who works as an auto driver, ferrying passengers along the highway and studying by night to pass his final year B.Com exams after three previous failures. He longs for something bigger than the road, a future that tests his resolve and resilience.

Lakshmi, Bindu Madhavi, is a traditional Brahmin girl who has rebuilt her life in Devarakonda after Polavaram. Her family once ran a hotel, and she now dreams of opening a highway hotel that can attract travelers and locals alike. She takes pride in the avakai, the mango pickles she makes, and imagines selling them in Hyderabad to build a thriving business.

Set against the town’s backdrop are political and economic forces: the village panchayat, which often seems distant from the needs of ordinary residents, and a booming 7-seater auto fleet that operates with hidden influence. Two powerful figures in the town pull strings, shaping decisions and masking injustices to suit their interests.

Despite their different origins, Akbar and Lakshmi grow from wary strangers into friends who respect each other’s dreams. Their initial caution softens as they share ambitions, values, and a mutual sense of possibility, eventually blossoming into a mature, quiet love that defies the boundaries of caste and religion.

As pressures mount from the town’s powerbrokers and from the expectations of their families, Akbar is forced to take a stand on issues that place him in the crosshairs of local authorities and social norms. He becomes an accidental hero, stepping up when it counts, even as the path ahead grows uncertain.

Meanwhile, Lakshmi faces her own family hurdles: her father is steadfast and skeptical of Muslims, creating a personal test for their relationship. The couple faces a difficult decision about whether their love can survive the strains of tradition, prejudice, and ambition in a town that watches every move.

Ultimately, the film asks how far two people will go for each other when their dreams collide with communal tensions, economic interests, and the weight of history in Devarakonda. The closing moments reflect a choice they make together, balancing respect for family, faith, and personal aspiration.

Through its landscapes, humor, and earnest performances, Avakai Biryani paints a nuanced portrait of a town where ordinary lives are shaped by larger forces, and where the simplest ingredients—a family recipe, a shared dream, and a steadfast heart—can sour or spice a future.
