Living in an orphanage run by the unpleasant Miss Hannigan, young Annie holds onto the hope that her parents will return for her. When wealthy businessman Oliver Daddy Warbucks seeks to improve his public image by hosting an orphan, Annie is chosen to live with him. As she adjusts to her new life in Warbucks' lavish mansion, she continues to dream of finding her biological parents. To fulfill her wish and garner positive publicity, Warbucks launches a nationwide search for them, offering a reward that attracts a host of imposters.

Set against the backdrop of New York City in the early 1930s, during a time of high unemployment and the challenges of Prohibition amidst the Great Depression, the story follows Annie, a spirited 10-year-old girl living in the bleak Hudson St Orphanage, overseen by the cruel and heavily intoxicated Miss Hannigan. The girls at the orphanage endure a difficult life under Miss Hannigan’s tyrannical rule as she despises her job.
