An orphan girl is taken in on a temporary basis by the manager of a bustling hotel that houses a community of show‑business performers. While the manager embraces her, the hotel’s owner detests the entertainers and pressures the staff to send the child back to the orphanage, creating a clash of compassion and disdain.

Betsy Brown is released from an orphanage into the care of Pop Shea, her parents’ friend who runs a boarding house for theatrical performers. The curmudgeonly owner and next-door neighbor, Sarah Wendling, detests “show people” and their noise, and demands Pop pay back the back rent of $2,500 or move out immediately. Betsy’s path grows tangled as Roger Wendling, the nephew who is in love with Pop’s daughter Barbara Shea, files suit to gain control of the building and his inheritance, with plans to stage a show starring the hotel’s residents.
Facing a tough showdown, Betsy convinces the Judge to watch the proposed production before ruling. With the help of her friends, the little girl presents a lavish musical revue inside the courtroom that so impresses an observer that he offers $2,500 a week to star in his International Follies.
Seeing the potential, Sarah changes her mind and argues that the show is worth $5,000, convincing the impresario to double his offer.
With the deal in reach, Roger and Barbara announce their plan to wed and adopt Betsy, tying the fate of the performers, the building, and the girl together.
